You cannot (as you can with BandCamp) include an album that always gets something added to your PayPal account. There is a prominent “tip” button if the fan chooses to click on it instead of going straight to the download. (I’ll bite my tongue and choose not to debate whether this is one more way to devalue our own music or rail against the blows to push marketing…) […]

There is of course a big distinction between the gnashing of teeth over those at the top, versus what it really means for the rest of us… being ubiquitous without being annoying. Being available and being patient, in it for the long haul and enjoying the ride. In many ways the legacy acts are in a world of their own, with only occasional reminders to the wider industry as to what definitely doesn’t work any more.

And thanks for the heads up on the album. I look forward to finally devoting time to listen to a full set of your songs.

It is an incredibly demoralizing moment for indies who want to “make it big” while staying DIY. So glad I set my sights on enjoying playing live music and hoping a few friends might enjoy my digital releases.

Ironically, in the midst of all this cr@p from the above-named bigwigs, I just had my best first week of a digital album “release”. In fact, it was pre-release with the official date being this coming Thursday. So having more than 2 dozen sales prior to marketing to anyone other than friends is a wonderful gift in the face of this two-faced — or rather no-faced — marketing.

And I will (as I have been doing!) follow your advise. I will be putting this into release with blog, social media, video, multiple audio platforms, and more. And even if I only sell another 2 dozen copies and get another thousand plays, I’ll be happy. The people who like my music, really like it. And I enjoyed making it and the process of working with a graphic artist to bring it to birth initially and in video. No one will have to publish a “stan stewart removal tool” for this album.

Keep rockin’, Steve!
Best regards,
Stan
